Overview:

Nanosys is a materials science and technology company. Applied nanotechnology is in our DNA.

We make architected materials. We engineer these materials for specific thermal, optical or other properties that you cannot get from using them in their native state.

For example, when you take an element, such as silicon, and manipulate it at the molecular-level, that element takes on new properties. What we do is build or architect those elements in such a way to obtain desired properties to our specifications.

Serial entrepreneur Larry Bock founded the company in 2001 and achieved status for Nanosys as the exclusive in-licensee of seminal nanotech patents from top universities such as Harvard, MIT, and UC Berkeley. These patents would later came the basis for the products Nanosys is commercializing today such as SiNANOde and QuantumRail.

Over the next seven to eight years, Nanosys continued on a development path based on Bock’s foundation generating many more patents aimed at new materials applications for high growth-potential markets.

Light emitting diodes (LEDs) and energy storage are two such markets that the company focuses on today. CEO Jason Hartlove, who joined Nanosys in 2008, is leading the charge to turn proven science into products featuring the company’s patented architected materials. Nanosys’ QuantumRail for LED lighting and SiNANOde for lithium-ion batteries are easy, drop-in solutions for products such as smart phones and batteries.
